Project Tasks

Task 1

Compare in-situ and remotely sensed measurements of internal wave intensity, variability and modal structure with global model predictions.

Task 2

Improve data assimilation in ocean models to better predict (remote) internal waves.

Task 3

Accurately capture generation mechanisms in global ocean models.

Task 4

Determine the primary processes by which internal waves dissipate, at what scales, and the implications for ocean mixing.

Task 5

Accurately simulate the processes that allow for the prediction of energy decay and arrival times of coherent and incoherent internal waves.

Task 6

Quantify what fraction of the energy (by frequency and stationarity) is remote versus locally generated at coastal ocean sites.

Task 7

Determine the influence and feedback of surface mixed layer and bottom boundary layer processes on internal wave energy.
